06-Jul-2000 -- Well, I've finally proved my dedication as a confluence visitor; I've also confirmed my insanity to my wife, but then she came along with me. We drove about a mile along Perch Pond Lane, a dirt road beyond the Tahawus Club, before we came to a closed gate. We parked and started our three mile hike along the dirt roads to the confluence. What beautiful country; picture 3 is one of the typical views along the way, and picture 4 is of Trout Pond, about a mile and a half from the confluence. Along the way we saw numerous butterfiles, peepers, deer tracks and scat, bear tracks and scat, fox tracks, and were eaten by an army of mosquitos.

We finally reached the nearest point to the confluence along the road and struck out through the woods. My wife gave up only a few hundred feet short of the confluence as she was wearing trekking sandals not suited for in-woods hiking. I continued on to the confluence in a dry streambed shown in picture 1. Picture 2 is the obligatory GPS shot, of course the last digit flipped to 1 just as I took the picture. Picture 5 is my wife showing where we entered the woods, and picture 6 is me looking happy about the prospect of hiking three miles back to the car.
