28-Jul-2016 -- From now on, I’ll think of this Degree Confluence Point as the “Latvian Fungus Point”. Beforehand, I had expected just a typically boring forested Degree Confluence Point. And, admittedly, the point itself was rather boring; but what made it special was that - within the 100 m ‘confluence zone’ - I found several different types of interesting-looking fungus sprouting from the ground.

I reached this point by driving northwards on a narrow country road from the village of Mežvalde. From previewing satellite imagery, I had expected to drive over a bridge across the Riežupe river, to get close to the point. However, I discovered that the road was blocked (by concrete barriers) at 56.99462°N 22.01007°E - about 800 m from the point - so I parked there and started hiking. I soon discovered the reason why the road had been blocked: The bridge had partially collapsed! The bridge was not driveable, but I was able to walk across it. (There was also an adjacent footbridge across the river that I could have used instead.)

Continuing on foot, I took a narrow dirt path (that was being used by mountain bikers) towards the point. At its closest point, this path passed within 180 m of the point; here I started bushwhacking through the forest down the slope to reach the point.

Afterwards, I stopped by the nearby town of Kuldīga to visit the famed "Ventas Rumba” (Venta Rapid) - at 249 m, Europe’s widest waterfall (but only 2 m high!).
