(visited by Daniel Simonis, Verena Leyendecker and Silverio Arhuata)

26-Jan-2007 -- When we planned our trip to Peru and Bolivia we noticed that there were a lot of unvisited confluence points in these two countries. The reason for that is quite clear because they lie far away from streets or in difficult terrain. So we decided to try 16S/69W on the Titicaca Lake, that should be easy to reach by boat.
The Titicaca Lake lies at an altitude of 3810 m on the border between Peru and Bolivia. We stayed there in the small and very nice town Copacabana. From there it were 30 km over water to reach the confluence, so we thought about going to the Sun Island for hiring a boat. From there the confluence is about 15 km away. However it turned out that the boats on the Titicaca Lake are not very fast, they make between 10 and 12 km/h. So we decided that it would take to much time to get to the Sun Island first, what takes about 2,5 hours and hired a boat in Copacabana.
There we found Silverio who told us that it would be no problem to hire him and his boat. As we do not speak Spanish very well it was a bit diffucult to explain to him what we wanted to do. He apparently could not understand why somone would hire a boat for six hours without visiting the Sun or Moon Island. Finally we made an agreement but maybe he is still wondering what that was all about.
To get to the confluence was not very difficult as te weather was good and navigating on the lake was no problem. Although it took us 5,5 hours to get to the confluence and back we enjoyed the time alone on the lake and lying in the sun. Unfortunately the visibilty was not as good as a day before so our fotos are not really nice. Picture #1 shows the view to the west where the Sun Island can be seen. Pictures #2 to #4 show the other directions where the different coastlines are visible. The happy confluence vistitors can be seen in pictures #7 and #8. On a day with good visibility looking eastwards the beautiful peaks of the Cordillera Real can be seen. This is shown by picture #6 that was taken a day before from the Sun Island. The picture also shows the area of the confluence point.

It would be a good idea to visit this point again on a day with better visibilty to get nicer fotos.
