05-Dec-2006 -- We left the town of Lençóis, Bahia, where I’m living at 7 a.m. and headed NE by car in direction of the confluence 41W 12S. While Lençóis is a tourist town nestled against the eastern slopes of the Chapada Diamantina Range, we were heading into farm and cattle country. We passed the last main town of Utinga (92 km from Lençóis) and about 1 km later took a dirt road NE heading towards a little village called Cabeceira do Rio. A few kilometers after the village we turned onto a small farm road and were able to drive within less than 400 meters of the confluence.

We left the car and headed out on foot through an area of old pasture land that was reverting to scrub. Most of the walk was fairly easy through waist-high bush, but we had to bush-wack through (and under) some tall shrubs and over two barbed wire fences. The confluence point was very over-grown, being open only towards a cattle watering pond.
