(visited by Shawn Fleming)

03-Aug-2015 -- This was the continuation of a summer trip with several successful confluences. Earlier in the day I was at 43N 116W.

Southbound on US-93 I turned west at Rogerson onto Road 1520 that also is depicted as 3 Creed Road and Jarbidge Road and turned south onto the dirt Monument Springs Road here and I followed it generally south until I was able to stop almost due north of the confluence. It was an easy hike across low grass and random basalt rocks with several different types of flowers on the east side of Wilson Creek to the confluence. The sweeping views here are spectacular! To the west is Elk Mountain and the view south down the valley is equally impressive.

My departure to the south generally followed NF-300 and I should have turned south onto CR-753 but took a detour to the south end of a lake by going north on CR-753 before wisely reversing course.

I was finally able to rejoin paved roads by continuing south on CR-753 and eventually turning eastbound on CR-755 (although Google depicts this as the continuation of the Oneil Basin Road) until I intersected with US-93 here.

Post processing of the GPS data reveals that my GPS receiver was 1.1 meters south of the actual confluence with a Horizontal Precision of 2.4 meters.

My round trip hike took 25 minutes for a and was 670 meters. My total time off US-93 to where I parked was 53 km and 1:13. Let me save you some time – go back out the exact same way! If you like adventure, and driving on forest service roads more suitable for a side by side UTV, then continue south. It took me 2:46 to drive the 92 km back to US-93. During the entire time off US-93, I saw only one other person and a lot of cows.

The difficulty of some of these roads coupled with severe storms threatening and nearby fires prompted me to abandon my plans to continue eastward along 42N and visit two more confluences before heading home. Getting stuck on these back roads if it rained any harder was a very strong possibility – I needed to get back with my vehicle intact. I’ll save those confluences for another day.

What a great overall adventure!
