GOOFY’S CONFLUENCE

The visit to this confluence was part of an expedition that a group of eleven friends did by the north of province of Santa Cruz in six 4WD cars. Our main goal was to cross the province along the 48th parallel, doing scales at the intersections with all of its meridians.

Complete narrative of the travel, please click here.

This confluence was the tenth of the chain of twelve that we caught along the trip. The previous was the 48°S 68°W.

Again on gravel roads but now driving in “economy mode” due to the low level of gasoline in the tanks. PR 87, then PR 47 until the entrance to ranches “La Julia” and “Aguada del Loro”. We found a couple of gates closed but without padlock and now, inhabited farmhouse and sheeps in the lands; again the risk of some owner denying us the access. In the “Aguada del Loro” farmhouse, we asked a peasant for permission, who immediately allowed us to enter in the property.

From the farmhouse, the theory tracks led us to a dried bed of a ravine at 1.5 kilometers of the confluence according to the plan.

We followed by uphill riverbed instead of the bed because a friendly flat without aggressive vegetation appeared on the top, ready to go straight line to the confluence. We seemed the cars of “Wacky Race” in the cartoons.

With clear risk of boring you, we reached the tenth consecutive confluence, parking again the cars on it. We baptized with the name of GUSTAVO “GOOFY” RUA and we took a beautiful picture of the six cars in row over the confluence.

We returned by the same path to the farmhouse, we greeted the peasant and then we went out to the PR 47 trying to arrive with a low level of gasoline in our tanks to Puerto Deseado, 70 kilometers ahead.

Two of us needed to be refilled “on flight” but we finally arrived to our destination, where we had dinner and we slept in a hotel. The next day we would go for the last confluence of the parallel 48, the 48°S 66°W.
