05-Apr-2010 -- On my visit to Botswana (en route to Namibia) over the period 2 April to 6 April 2010, I had planned to visit two undocumented confluences at 20S 22E, and 20S 21E.

First Confluence to be attempted was that at 20S 22E, which turned into an unsuccessful attempt due to overgrown tracks making progress impossible.

The next day, 5 April 2010, after a most relaxing camp in the bush, we reached Drotsky's caves and enjoyed a few hours exploring these totally undeveloped caves.

We then headed for the village of XaiXai near the Namibia border and successfully found the track leading from the village to the border fence.

We made short work of this track, the Land Rovers making good progress over the bumpy sandy track. We reached the border fence and found a track running along the border. Here we turned south and traveled the 15 km to the nearest point to the Confluence.

At this point we got out of the vehicles with the handheld GPS and soon found the magical 10 zeroes on the GPS.

The Confluence is situated in light bush growing on Kalahari sand and is in cattle post country (although we did not see many cattle in the area). The Namibia/Botswana border fence runs directly north and south a few hundred meters to the West of the Confluence.

Just north of the Confluence point lie the Aha Hills which straddle the two countries. These hills are rumoured to be the location of the legendary Lost City of the Kalahari.

Slightly further north from the Aha Hills is the Dobe border control which we used to enter Namibia and continue our holiday trip.

The border with Namibia is running approx. 130 m west of the Confluence.
