08-Oct-2007 -- Any visit to this area is a major expedition, and this is probably one of the easiest confluences to get to. One should be aware that the whole plateau is at 5000 meters, it is very remote and the harshness of the climate is only rivaled by the arctic.
When I was in the area, I was completely alone, had at least 6 days of bicycling to anything that can be called civilization, and not much more fuel. I was sad to be so close and yet leave it unvisited, but it was the reasonable thing to do.
Also, my camera hardly worked at all at this point, so I haven't got any photos. However, on the way in, my friends shot a video of river crossing that they posted on youtube, also not far from the confluence. This is the kind of thing you need to do now and then in there.
The nearest inhabited place is Sumxi
I passed the place that's marked as Lazhuglung, but that does not exist and probably never has. Maps are notoriously unreliable in there. However, I found something that seemed to have been deliberately made by heavy vehicles at around 34o45N 81o13E, which could simplify access a bit.
There are also some tracks made by 4WDs that sometimes can be followed to the vicinity of the confluence, some of which are fairly good. Going in with vehicles will probably not be permitted by Chinese authorities, nor should it, it is a nature reserve containing many threatened species.
