29-Jun-2002 -- To spice up a weekend in June we decided to visit one of the nearest confluence points 62N 28E at Juva, within a hour and a half drive from our summer cottage. At Juva "city" we met our friends, who had rented a summer place at Sulkava, and then carried on to confluence together.

The weather on June 29th was diverse, as typical of the entire month. During our drive there the sun was still shining, but the closer we got to the point the darker and windier it got. Some extra suspense was added to the trip by a burning gas light of the other car. Would we make it back to the city before running out of gas?

Because the point was in a lake 100 meters from the shore, we were equipped with swimming suits and wet suits. After noticing that the beach was private, we drove to a nearby farm to inform them with our plan. After explaining our case we were not only given permission to use the beach, but also a row boat of the beach owners'.

By this time the rain had already started. We rowed to the confluence point thankful for the hospitality of the locals. In swimsuits we would have been frozen to death.

The landscape was that of typical Finnish countryside. A lake surrounded by forest and fields, and a few farms or houses here and there. Close to the shore there were also summer cottages. If it hadn't been for the bad weather, we would surely have paid the point even a longer visit although the football World Cup 2002 bronze match was at the time about to begin.
