27-Apr-2008 -- This is the 23rd of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 8N 9W.

From Faranah we took the road towards Mamou and approximately 40 km onwards the road by-passes the Confluence by 3.8 kilometres. We continued and found a kilometre further the first track to get into the direction of the Confluence; but this track ended with still four kilometres to the Confluence.

The next unsuccessful attempt ended also 4 km from the Confluence. On the way back towards Faranah, 6 km from the Confluence, we found a turn-off which lead us to the village Daganja. We drove through the village and on the other side we found a track, which lead us 2.4 km to the Confluence, then the track turned in the opposite direction.

Very frustrated not to achieve our goal, we went back to the village, and asked the village chief for permission to put up our camp for the night in the village. We got a nice place allocated next to the soccer field. There was still sufficient time to make the 2.7 km to the Confluence. We got some boys from the village to accompany us and off we went up and down the hills.

We must have walked more than 4 km before we reached the Confluence. The next morning we left Daganja and headed north to the Fouta Djallon highland, spending a couple of days exploring the area and visiting some waterfalls before we continued further north to Senegal.

Continued at 13N 14W.
