A estradinha passava a quarenta metros do ponto exato.

09-Jun-2012 -- This confluence continues from 13S 40W.

After the second confluence of the trip, near Nova Itarana city, Bahia state, I headed always to north, passing by Milagres, Santo Estêvão and Feira de Santana cities, and other two tolls. Along this leg, a strong rain falls in some moments, and a weak one in others. I starting to concern about it, due to the visit, according to the previous analysis, will need a hike larger than in the previous visits.

When arriving at the next city, Santa Bárbara, still in the morning, I caught a dirt road at the left, just in front of the city entrance. The road was in good conditions, and I followed it by five and half kilometers.

According to satellite photos of Google Earth, with not so good resolution, I realized that the main dirt road passes about 580 meters to the exact point. I was previewing a necessary walk by this distance, as cited, and didn’t have any idea of degree of hardness of this walk. However, when arriving near the confluence region, I realized that there were secondary roads, more and more narrow, rounded by small properties, which allowed me to go nearer to the exact point. When stopping the car, under a tree, I was 207 meters close to the confluence. I could still approach a bit more, but I prefer to hike the remaining distance. A weak rain was falling, but didn’t embarrass the visit.

The first leg of the hike was by a small dirt road. This road passes forty meters to the exact point. The remaining meters was most complicated, due to it was in a dense bush area, up to get all GPS zeroes.

The confluence visit occurred at the kilometer 1,350 of the trip.

After visiting the point, I went ahead, already thinking about the forth planned confluence, the 10S 39W one, a never visited confluence.

The next cities of the way, already at the north of Bahia, were Serrinha, Teofilândia and Araci ones. At this last one, I stopped to take my afternoon snack. After this, I passed by Euclides da Cunha city, the last one of Bahia state at the edge of BR-116 highway, yet very early to end the day.

As the previous day, I’m in an impasse: if I end the day in Euclides da Cunha, I lost a significant time in which I would continue driving. In the other hand, if I went ahead, maybe I would have problem to harmonize a confluence visit and an appropriate place to spend the night. I then decided to continue, because I was at the last but one day of the trip and need to, above all, arrive at Fortaleza.

This leg that was just starting, however, is more complicated than the previous day one. Euclides da Cunha city to Bahia-Pernambuco border is the most isolated leg of the trip. It is more then 150 kilometers long without any city in the way, and I didn’t want to cross this leg at night. Then, it’s almost sure that, if I make a 10S 39W confluence visit, I must spend the night in some place at the edge of the highway. Due to I spent the previous night in a precarious place, I didn’t want to do this again.

Due to this situation, I realized that the last confluence of the trip is impracticable, and then I went straight to Pernambuco state, and spend the night at Salgueiro city, in a hotel much more structured than in the previous night.

In this third day, I travelled by 683 kilometers, completing a total of 1,830 up then.

In the following day, the last of the trip, I started very early again, went in the Ceará state and, about 2:00 PM, I arrived at Fortaleza city, after travelling in this day by 610 kilometers with a total of 2,440 kilometers.

With this visit, I become the person with the greatest number of successful confluence visits in Brazil.
