A trip offering the opportunity to visit three Confluences was done from Palapye (Botswana) to the origin of the Zambezi River in the northwest corner of Zambia and back. The source is close to where the borders of Zambia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) meet. See this website for the complete trip notes that was phoned through by sat phone on a daily basis for your background information. After having visited 18S 25E and 16S 23E before, this was the third Confluence visited on Day 16 of our trip:

16-Oct-2004 -- Day started at Musungwa Safari Lodge on the banks of the Itezhi Tezhi dam and ended at Maramba River Lodge in Livingston (all in Zambia)

Before they really got going this morning, they first visited the degree confluence 16S 26E, just outside Ngoma, some 5 km off the charted track. Our webmaster for the trip sent us an SMS via sat phone that we were close to a confluence point. We decided the morning that we would do it.

We encountered several tracks leading to the confluence point, but all of them turned away about 3 km from the actual Confluence. There were very old tracks that we followed to within metres of the Confluence. The area is quite sandy and the confluence point lies within an island of trees surrounded by grassy plains.
