28-Jul-2005 -- The confluence 2S 33E is located on the island named Ukerewe. This is the largest island in Lake Victoria. Ukerewe Island is located very close to east shore of Lake Victoria. There is a ferry connection from Mwanza, the second largest city in Tanzania twice a week, and from Masahunga several times a day.

I used the latter ferry and arrived at the island on 28 July 2005. On the same day, I closed to the Confluence. I got off the car and walked half an hour in the cassava fields. The confluence 2S 33E is located in a cassava field and I reached the exact place at 3:00 p.m. This is the second time for me to arrive at a Confluence in Tanzania. The first one was 5S 39E, which was already registered in 2004.

On Ukerewe Island, Kerewe people (Wakerewe) and Kara people (Wakara) occupy most of the population. They cultivate cassava for stable food. They partially dry cassava on rocks and pound it to eat. Though the island is located in the lake, there are not so many fishers' villages. One can find several fishing boats kept at the lakeshore. These boats are owned not by fishers, but farmers. Cassava farmers sometimes use these boats to catch fish and supply their food and income.
