19-Apr-2004 -- This confluence is located on the south-western edge of the Tanami Desert, not far from the Great Sandy Desert. Perhaps the most notable feature at this locality is the view of the Selby Hills, just visible on the skyline in the east. An old track running between the Balgo Community and the Tanami Road passes this confluence approximately 2km to the east. Unfortunately this track has not been used by vehicles for a number of years and is now the preferred course for surface water runoff during the wet season.

Consequently, soft sand covers the bottom of the track and scrubby trees spread their branches over it at windscreen height. It is 12km along this track from the Balgo Road to the confluence. I struggled along in the sand in low range 4WD for about 7km and then decided that it may be easier going cross country. The last 5km I followed that track and then the GPS across bumpy clumps of spinifex grass and through long grass, no faster going but the engine preferred it. Photographs taken - on the return the car radiator boiled over on the soft sand, due I discovered to seeds from the long grass clogging the radiator grill. A planned ten minute detour to the confluence turned into a two hour saga and a late lunch. But I got the pictures!
