07-Sep-2018 -- We were visiting the Great Victoria Desert with permission from the Maralinga Tjarutja peoples as part of a Friends of the Great Victoria Desert ongoing survey and monitoring of local fauna and flora. The area contains several rare and endangered species and a number of destructive pests including foxes, cats, and camels.

The area is quite remote and permission is required to visit any specific area away. We had come via Ooldea, the Oak Valley (closed community) and the Cook to Voakes Hill road prior to venturing west towards the Mamungari Conservation Park.

One evening we camped within about 1 km of the Confluence. Visiting Confluences had never been part of the plan, but this chance was too good to pass up, so 4 of us made the walk from camp and back. At that time we did not know if it had been visited before, or not.

It is clear from the pics taken by the previous visitors to this Confluence in 2013 that we were in exactly the same spot and that there had not been a fire through the area in the mean time.
