07-Dec-2003 -- A group of friends made a trip to cross the desert lands in San Juan along the 30S latitude stripe. This trip was taken by a group of 8 Jeeps:
1- Martin Barletti and Marcelo Santana in their Jeep cherokkee
2- Javier Zarnicky (a.k.a Chucky) without copilot in his red Suzuki Samurai
3- Javier Alvarez Lines (a.k.a. Morsa) with Gonzalo Lopez Huck as copilot in their Jeep Mahindra
4- Adrian Noguera, (a.k.a.TICO) and his copilot Marcos Patasucia in their Jeep Hurricane
5- Walter Noguera, (a.k.a. TUCO) and his copilot Pepe Comesaña in their Jeep IKA-TLC
6- Sergio Baratucci, (a.k.a. MOMO) in his Jeep Hurricane-Ford without copilot
7- Horacio Spina (a.k.a. Tano) and copilot Fernando Alonso (official cook of the group) in their white suzuki Samurai
8- and my son Juan Martin (ak.a. Chompa) and myself in our blue Jeep-Ford.

It took us 2 days to get the 30S-68W confluence, becuase there was a group of mountains between us and the 30-68 point, that he had to overcome going first north and then coming down.

The confluence is in the middle of a dry-land area called "Valle de la Luna" (Moon Valley). Millions of years ago it used to be a swamp but then became this desert. Studies says that now there is no water even 1500 mts below earth. Its name comes from the shapes taken after becoming a dryland area and the effects that the wind developed in the area.

All along this trip bypassing this mountains we moved inside the course of a dry river that pass aprox. 400 meters east of the 30-68 point.
The 30-68 point is aprox 23,8 kms north-west of the "Valle de la Luna" park entrance.
We are providing pictures of the GPS measuring the point, as well as the 4 cardinal points seen from the 30-68 point.
