10-Jul-2005 -- As electricity was gone since yesterday, the rain didn't stop, I decided to get away, to the more sunny and drier parts of the country. As the land in the North promised to be flat I could use my son's mountain bike for a change. At the same time I would be able to test if an old laptop connected to the GPS would survive a day-long ride.

Actually, I arrived in Chafe with my moving map display in order, so I could assemble the bike and take a ride to the Confluence, through rather flat country. Everywhere people were busy tending their maize and groundnut fields.

Gradually the footpaths led me to 12N 7E. In fact, it had to be in the middle of a maize field! After walking in circles staring on the GPS I closed in. I wonder what those villagers tending their plots were thinking...
