Important information from DCP member
Phil Boyle: "This point lies around 45 km south of the Saudi border, and in an area renowned for its (sometimes violent) smuggling activity. Saudi border guards are regularly killed in their efforts to stem the tide of the trafficking of weapons, drugs, refugees, terrorists, qāt, sheep, and cars. The governorate of al-Jawf deservedly has the reputation of being the wildest region in Yemen, and any visits to this tense border region will need a tribal escort (perhaps best organised in the town of Ḥazm in the south of al-Jawf), and government permission. Getting to the point is also likely to be a major off-road undertaking across the Jawfiyy mountains and down into the desert, although the point itself is close to a small village, so the route is not impossible by any means. Although this is a really tough point to visit, the successful visitor will be rewarded by beautiful views of dark hills emerging out of the duney sand." (added 04 May 2007 GK)
