15-Nov-2008 -- This is the 43rd of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January at 11N 5E.
Story continues from 28N 34E.
We had been staying for a couple of days in Cairo, visiting some of the sightseeings like the pyramids of Gīza, Ṣaqqāra, and Dahšūr, the National Museum, and some other points of interest. We also got our visas for Sudan and Ethiopia. Just by driving through Cairo and surviving this traffic chaos, you automatically make an advanced driving course.
We were heading out of the town towards the 6th of October City (a newly erected satellite town). About 3 km before the town we stopped at a petrol station, filled our fuel tanks, and set the GPS for the Confluence. To our surprise we where only 1.4 km from the Confluence, but on the wrong side of the highway.
A couple of kilometres further on, we were able to find a suitable turnoff and got this way as close as 800 meters to the Confluence. We parked the car next to the road and walked the remaining distance, mainly through building rubble, to the Confluence.
