15-Jan-2005 -- This confluence, 36N 23E is located in the centre of the Stenó Kithíron (Kíthira Strait), one of the western entrances to the Aegean Sea. We, coming from East, are of course leaving it now and just here we are entering into the Ionian Sea.

The day is humid and windy and the visibility did not improve much since our last visit, 36N 25E, this morning. So we take it as an incentive to revisit these points again in fine weather in a more favourable season.

A glance into the radar shows the area of the Kíthira Strait.

Lets begin with a look to Southeast with Nísos Andikíthira. Then we swing to Northeast, where we can see the two rocky islets Nisídhes Koufonísia.

To the North, we see the largest island in the area, Nísos Kíthira, and after which the Strait is named. And in front of Kíthira, exactly north of the Confluence, there is Nisís Avgó, the closest land.

To the Southwest there is of course nothing permanent, but today there is a tow of a large oil rig. The oil rig probably served for some research drilling in North Africa and is now no longer needed there and towed back to Europe or another field to be exploited.
