15-Jul-2011 -- This attempt is part of a bicycle trip along the Great Wall of China. The story starts at 41°N 115°E. The previous report is 39°N 102°E.

As usual I had an early start at 5:30 AM departing from the town Ālāshàn Yòuqí (阿拉善右旗) with a beeline distance of 63 km to the confluence. Even though I hadn’t digested well the hot pot of the previous night and feeling accordingly weak, I simply didn’t want to oversleep the pleasantly cool morning.

At 11 AM I reached the turnoff from the main road at a distance of 14 km to the confluence point. There was an industrial facility protected by a high fence. At the intersection a big sign with engraved capital letters ’NO ADMITTANCE’ disinvited for any further attempt. Missing an alternative, I decided to skip this point, which is located remotely in the Lóngshǒu Mountain Range (龙首山).

Revisiting Google Maps, I saw that it should be possible to go around that facility. Then the road should bring a future confluence hunter quite close to his goal.

I continued the main road, climbed the mountain range and coasted down into the Héxī Corridor (河西走廊) in Gānsù province. I spent the night in the town Shāndān (山丹县).
