29-Oct-2000 -- This confluence is located a couple
miles south of Port Austin, at the tip of Michigan's "thumb"
region. Just a few steps away and you're in Lake Huron. The coastline of
the thumb is all cottages and summer recreation spots, but the interior
is all farmland -- mainly sugar beets and corn. Fortunately, this field
had been harvested by late October and I was able to walk out to the
actual confluence spot. Cornfields stretch out pretty much in every
direction from here, clearly visible on the totally flat terrain. This
was a perfect clear, crisp Autumn day. Just right for the last ride (and
last confluence visit) of the season.
