15-Mar-2001 -- Our First Confluence. The Ides of March: N48 W80 was visited and documented.
This confluence is in Canada, in northern Ontario about 500 miles north of Toronto near a little
town called Swastika. By using Garmin Enhanced Canada Maps we were able to drive to within
45 meters of the confluence using a gravel road shown on the Garmin map. After parking the
truck in the snowbank and discussing the best approach for the last 45m we snowshoed
and skied through 1-2m snow and arrived at N48 W80. We had 3 GPS units and they all read
the required zeroes near the spot we decreed the confluence. An aspen stake duly noting
the auspicious occasion was stuck into the frozen ground at the confluence. Pictures were
taken of the confluence and the three navigators, Leader Badge Darling, Technical Advisor
John Carhart and Bearer/Trail Slasher Jimmy Malnerich.
