26-May-2002 -- This confluence is located on the side of Mt Ingersoll adjacent to Lower Arrow lake (Columbia river) across from the town of Burton in the Kootenays.

From the junction of Hwy 6 and the Whatshan Lake Road, I drove north to Whatshan FSR at 1.6 km. Drove along the east side of the lake to Whatshan Road South on right at 15.6 km.

Continued to Branch 14 road on left at 20.8 km. (Stay right and continue down to the lake for a nice campsite with table, fire pit, old log slide and light beacon)

Stayed right at 22.1 km mark. (Saw a grizzly bear here about 200 meters up the road when it scattered)

Followed this uphill as the road criss-crosses Fern creek. Reached the end of the log road at 24.9 km and next to the creek.

The GPS showed 2.25 km and 2800 feet up to the confluence from here. (At the time, I was fogged in. But later I could see a better route from here up a burnt ridge)

I hiked up a clearcut then bushwacked up following Fern creek. This was steep going. Made it to a waterfall that I crossed above and then snow began.

Slogged thru snow for 1 km until I reached the confluence in the subalpine at an elevation of 6330 feet. Note: Lots of snow this year that may stick around a long time into the summer.
