#1: The Confluence from 10 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

04-Jun-2016 -- This is the second out of 3 reports reaching confluence points in Southern Norway. The story continues from 60°N 12°E.

Like the night before, I cycled until 11:30 PM when I decided to camp even though it was still daylight. The next morning, I crossed into Sweden, actually heading for 61°N 13°E. But it soon became clear that I hadn’t enough time to visit this confluence and close the loop back to Oslo. So I crossed back into Norway at Bastuknappen and continued on forest tracks to the main road no. 25. At Gottonborg (6 km from the CP) I left the main road and cycled on various tracks up to a distance of 1200 m, left my bike and hiked to the exact location.

The ground during the hike was beautifully covered with moss. The closer I came to the confluence point, the wetter became the ground. By coincidence there is a circle with a radius of 100 m around the confluence with real bog as if nature wants to prevent visitors from reaching the point. The absence of trees indicates that this bog is actually a high moor.

Since I didn’t sink in deeper than ankle-deep, I considered the moor as safe for walking through it. So I dared to make a straight approach to the confluence point. I had no problem to reach the exact point, which is located in the centre of the huge glade.

After the visit I walked back to my bicycle the same way that I had come. Back at the main road, I hurried to reach Elverum before the supermarkets closed at 8 PM. After having a self-made dinner in Elverum, I spent my third night in a row camping out wild in the forest.
