(visited by Thomas Barthel)

27-Aug-2023 --

During a two week road-trip through Iceland together with a friend of mine, I took the chance to visit the some confluence points.

We left the ring road "Suðurlandsvegur 1" and took the dirt road "Þveràrvegur" direction north. After passing some farms with very less houses the landscape turned into a large moss-covered lava field. After a slow drive over a distance of about 18 km we reached a junction with a sign pointing to some nearby mountains. To reach the confluence we had to take the way to the right with the signed Mountain "Miklafell". 950 m later there was a house with some outbuildings. Furthermore we saw an engine of a crashed military aircraft from 1944 and a sign showing the background to this story. We parked the cat at this spot as the dirt road was too rough for our car. Now I had to start my way to the confluence on foot. The GPS showed a distance of 2.4 km to go. After walking through a beautiful landscape, in the beginning still consisting of moss-covered lava field, I passed some small creeks and a pond and reached the closer area of the CP. The ground now consisted of normal soil covered with grass. I had to leave the path just 70 m from the CP. After crossing one last small valley I was able to reach to the confluence point and take the required images at the confluence point 64N-18E. Since it was already evening, the light was fascinating warm, resulting in green-gold colours.

This visit was my fourth visit of a confluence point in Iceland. It was an easy visit due to the presence of dirt road.
