31-May-2012 -- This confluence point is only 2.9 km east of highway 1 over Holtavörduheidi and a good starting point is at the highest point of the road (407 m) near the weather station. From this point Eiríksjökull and Langjökull (glaciers) could be seen 40 - 50 km in the southeast.
The terrain is mostly easy, tundra moss and some lichen and grass as well as totally barren patches. However, 350 m west of the confluence there is a 20 - 30 m deep ravine and a river. I found places to cross the river with my 35 cm high rubber boots without getting wet. The weather was extremely good, +12 C weak northerly wind and a blue sky.
Wildlife in the area as observed were a pair of Grey lag geese and a pair of Harlequin ducks in the ravine and a small spider exactly on the CP.
The elevation at the CP was measured to be 259 m on the GPS.
