(visited by Henrik Sunden)

22-Aug-2004 -- This Sunday I was going to visit my friends Birgitta and Bruno, who moved to the USA and now were for a short visit in Bruno's native region. They have a small cottage near Svartlå, about 1 km south of 66 degrees N and a few km east of 21 degrees east. The route from Boliden to Svartlå passes also close to 65Nx21E, so I tried to reach the southern one of these two confluences first.

I left my land survey work at Rengård (west of Boliden) at 10 a.m. and drove to Norrlångträsk, then towards Selet, took south towards Tvärån, then Åfors. Then the road was very rough and slow for about 4 km. I then turned right twice and passed the moose salt lick stone the first visitor had noticed. Just after that I stopped on a clear-felled area, 550 m south of the confluence. The walk through forest and over a bog was easy.

The GPS estimated the elevation to be 100 m.

I walked back the same way and continued to Svartlå. 8 km before Svartlå, the weather changed from sunny to a violent thunderstorm. The time was 2.10 p.m. and Birgitta was waiting at the gate. Birgitta and Bruno took me to the Stone Polishing Shop in Svartlå, where we had a gigantic meal consisting of palt, a special Swedish dish. Palt is a large ball made mostly from potatoes and with a core of pork. I was very hungry and ate six of those, which they said at the shop was a new record.
