20-Mar-2005 -- The beautiful mountain sceneries in Plateau State, between Vom and Langtang have been a long time on the list of places to see. Wase Rock on the southern slope to Benue River seemed close enough and so Confluence 9N 10E also made its way to the list of places to visit.

With the aid of some maps, a round trip was assembled, which led first to the South, as far as Lafia, then to the East to Wase, from there North-West in direction of Jos, and back to Abuja. So just a little bit of rain should fall, to clear the Harmattan dust. Travelling the highway to Lafia was smooth, at this early Sunday morning nobody travelled and the routine checkpoints were only manned with tired police or military personnel.

After quite some hours of driving through the flat plain north of Benue River, 9N 10E made its appearance on the GPS screen. Later the first hazy glimpse of Wase Rock, a sole steep outcrop of basalt with about 360 m of height rose ahead. Close to the Rock a small bush road, first roughly asphalted, later only laterite led to the South. A big shady tree invited for a picnic and a second breakfast. Strengthened, the rest was a mere stroll through the savannah to Confluence 9N 10E.
