20-Jan-2005 -- It is the start of the Id el-Kabir festival and we have a couple of days off work. Several of us were travelling down to the Cross River State to spend these days at the cattle ranch and at the drill monkey captive breeding sanctuary at the Afi Mountains. On the way to these destinations lies in easy proximity, the confluence 7N 9E.
We travelled from Abuja along the A234 to Keffi, and then further to Akwanga where we turned off onto the A3 to Lafia, and further to Makurdi. At Makurdi, after we had crossed the River Benue, we turned off and proceeded for Yandev and to Gboko. We drove through the busy town of Gboko onto the road to Ihugh. At Ihugh we were only a few kilometres away from the Confluence and eventually we managed to drive as close as 400 meters to the Confluence.
The rest of the way was an easy walk through cassava fields and orange orchards. In the middle of a cassava field next to a village we located at 11 a.m. the confluence 7N 9E. It did not take long before we were entertained by the local kids who were showing off their tricks. After we had taken all the necessary pictures we strolled back to the vehicle and continued on our journey.
