16-Jul-2005 -- Nach dem erfolgreichen Besuch von 37N 35E wollte ich einen Doppelpunkt versuchen. Auf der Autobahn bin ich bis Adana und dann weiter Richtung Gaziantep. Die Autobahn führt genau zum Confluencepunkt. Wie der Punkt 37N 35E ist auch 37N 36E direkt neben einem Autobahndreieck, wo sich aber ebenfalls keine Ausfahrt befindet. Ich bin Richtung Meer gefahren und nach der Mautstelle links auf eine Landstraße. Dort fragte ich bei einer Bauernfamilie am Straβenrand nach dem Weg. Es kamen immer mehr junge Frauen und alle hatten einen großen Spaß mit mir und fragten mich aus allen Richtungen. Ein Junge dort hat mir dann den Weg nach Dokuztekne (auf Deutsch "neun Boote", weg vom Meer mitten in der Pampa) sehr gut erklärt.

Man biegt bei der ersten Möglichkeit links ab, folgt der Straße, fährt dann auf einer Brücke über die eine Autobahn und durch eine Unterführung unter der anderen Autobahn hindurch. Ich bin gar nicht bis Dokuztekne gefahren, da es von Hamidiye aus auch nicht mehr weit ist und ich dem Pfeil des GPS folgte. Auf sehr schlechten Wegen fuhr ich einen Hügel hinauf. Oben musste ich einige Wege wieder zurück fahren, da diese Bauernwege mit einem normalen PKW nicht zu befahren sind. Man nimmt oben auf dem Hügel am besten den linken Weg und biegt dann rechts in ein Weintraubenfeld. Allerdings sind dann noch immer 800 Meter zu Fuß zurückzulegen und man muss durch einige Felder und über einige Hügel. Besser ist es wohl, bis Dokuztekne zu fahren und dort einen Feldweg zu nehmen, der direkt bis zum Punkt führt.

Die Confluence ist auf einem abgeernteten Acker, der von kleinen Bewässerungsbächen umsäumt ist. Hier sind auch große schattenspendende Bäume. Der Juli ist für die Cukurova wohl der ungeeignetste Monat. Es ist sehr heiß und schwül. Anscheinend gibt es hier teilweise immer noch Malariafälle. Mich hat glücklicherweise nichts gestochen, aber die Temperaturen haben mir schon zu schaffen gemacht. An dem einen Bachlauf sind Bäume und dort habe ich mich etwas erholt. Plötzlich machte es einen lauten Klatsch, so dass ich gleich aufgesprungen bin. Auf dem Rückweg am Bach entlang klatschte es dann häufiger und ich sah, dass es sich dabei um Schildkröten handelte, die richtig ins Wasser hechteten. Es gab die unterschiedlichsten Größen von Schildkröten: von ganz winzig, so Tischtennisballgröße bis ganz groß, fast Fußballgröße. Über die Hügel bin ich in der gleißenden Hitze zurück zum Auto. Beim Einsteigen konnte ich nicht widerstehen und habe Weintrauben mitgenommen, die sehr lecker schmeckten. Also hat ein Besuch in der heißesten Jahreszeit doch auch seine Vorteile.

Nach dem erfolgreichen Doppelpunkt hatte ich mir eine Belohnung verdient. Deswegen bin ich in den netten Badeort Yumurtalık und hab mich im Wasser erfrischt, wobei die Erfrischung nicht so groß war, da das Wasser fast tropische Temperaturen hatte. Im Ort gibt es einige nette Sandstrände und dem Ort ist eine kleine Insel mit einer kleinen alten Befestigungsanlage vorgelagert, zu der man gut schwimmen kann.

16-Jul-2005 -- After my successful visit of 37N 35E I wanted to try a double point. I took the motorway until Adana and then drove on in the direction of Gaziantep. The motorway leads exactly to the confluence point. Like point 37N 35E, 37N 36E is situated right next to an interchange where there is no exit. Once I got there I asked a peasant family at the side of the road for directions. More and more young women arrived and got very amused about me and asked me questions from all directions. A boy then explained the way to Dokuztekne (in English "Nine Boats") to me very well.

You turn left at the first opportunity, follow the road, then cross over the first motorway on a bridge and under the second one via an underpass. I didn't drive all the way to Dokuztekne as it isn't far from Hamidiye either and I was following the arrow of the GPS. On very bad roads I drove up a hill. Once I got to the top I had to turn back on some of these roads, because the farm tracks couldn't be done with a normal car. On the top of the hill you best take the road on the left and then turn right into a grape field. From there it's still 800 metres on foot though, and you have to cross several fields and walk over a few hills. It's probably better to drive to Dokuztekne and then take a country road from there that leads directly to the point.

The Confluence is on a harvested acre fringed by small irrigation canals. There are also big shady trees. July is probably the most unsuitable month for the Cukurova. It is very hot and humid. Apparently they still get malaria here sometimes. I didn't get bitten fortunately, but the temperatures still got to me. On one of the streams there are trees and there I recovered a little. Suddenly there was a loud splash that made me jump up. On the way back along the stream there were more splashes and I saw that they came from turtles virtually diving into the water. There were turtles of all different sizes: from tiny ones the size of table tennis balls to huge ones almost the size of a football. Over the hills I went back to my car in scorching heat. Before I got into the car I couldn't resist and took some grapes with me which tasted delicious. So a visit in the hottest time of the year has its advantages as well.

After the successful double point I deserved a reward. Therefore I went to the nice bathing resort of Yumurtalık and refreshed myself by bathing in the water, although as the water had almost tropical temperatures, it wasn't really very refreshing. In the town there are a few nice sandy beaches and off-shore there is a small island with an old fortification that you can swim to easily.
