07-Sep-2005 -- I, Vaine, have been thinking about seeking a confluence for a long time since my friend, Luis Pirola, introduced me to the Confluence Project. It was around the Brazilian Independence Day holiday (September 7th.) that my friend Pirola and I decided to take advantage of the day off to reach confluence 21S 48W, in São Paulo state and not very far from our hometown.

Along with yet another friend, André, we left Araraquara, our hometown, and drove towards Pontal (near Sertãozinho), closest town to the confluence. When we got there, we gathered information about the city from locals, while watching closely the direction shown by our GPS device. We drove to Usina Basan S/A, a sugar cane plant and the closest point of reference to the site we were looking for.

Once at the sugar plant, we drove up to the confluence which is right in the middle of a sugar cane plantation! Lucky us, the sugar cane had just been harvested in that field. With our GPS and cameras, we walked to the specific coordinates where we took some pictures. It was a great feeling of mission accomplished.
