27-Oct-2005 -- Cheryl and I were on our way from home in the Washington, DC area to a square dance weekend near Cincinnati, Ohio. Our route to and along I-70 afforded an opportunity to visit four confluences along 40 degrees latitude. Out second visit was 40N 81W. After spending the night in Washington, PA, we continued on I-70 through Wheeling, WV into Ohio and diverted south a few miles near Belmont, OH.

The confluence itself is at the edge of a hayfield about a quarter mile north of Dunfee Road near OH-147. We parked along Dunfee Road and I donned my boots for the short walk through the wet grass over the rise to the confluence. There was still frost in the shady areas. Interestingly I, too, stirred up a small flock of four wild turkeys. I wonder if they are related to those reported by the previous visitor over five years ago. I easily reached the confluence very near the edge of the open field beside a large tree still sporting fall colors (photo #1). Getting all zeros on the GPSr (photo #6) was not difficult. I took the usual photos in each direction (#2 to the east and #3 to the west) and began my return trip to the south (photo #4). I couldn’t resist a photo (photo #5) of the gorgeous tree behind the rolls of hay as I walked back to Cheryl. An ice cream truck seemed a bit out of place as it drove by upon my arrival back at the car.
