27-Oct-2005 -- Cheryl and I were on our way from home in the Washington, DC area to a square dance weekend near Cincinnati, Ohio. Our route to and along I-70 afforded an opportunity to visit four confluences along 40 degrees latitude. Out fourth and last visit was 40N 83W. We continued west to Columbus and Ohio State University before turning south toward Cincinnati and our destination for the weekend.
The confluence is about three and a half blocks east of the campus of OSU in the alley or perhaps in the back of one of the many apartment buildings housing OSU students in the area. The closest legal place to park we could find was a couple blocks away, so we walked to 15th Ave. and down the alley (photos #2 looking east and #3 west) behind two apartment buildings at 290 and 288 15th Ave (between Summit and 4th Streets). I spent several minutes trying to get as close as I could to the zero point. Being close to the three story buildings and significant tree cover the reading on my GPSr was relatively unstable. Photo #6 was the closest I could capture. Photo #1 shows the back of the building at 288 in which the confluence probably lies. Photo #5 shows the same building from 15th street in front.
