The Great Adventure – Stage One
- A proposed trip to Mankato, Minnesota to work with three groups named Kids Against Hunger, with Outreach Africa, and Life Tracks which are non profit groups that help disadvantaged groups around the world, sparked my interest in seeing if I could hit a bunch of confluences while on the trip.
After checking GoogleEarth it looked very possible with one minor problem, most would be latitude changes. In this area the distance between latitude change confluences is about 69 miles.
The total round trip was accomplished in 5 days and a total of 11 confluences. Two of the days had 5 confluences visited on each of the days. The trip included 34N 97W, 35N 97W, 36N 97W, 37N 97W, 38N 97W, 44N 94N, 42N 93W, 42N 94W, 41N 94W, 41N 95W, AND 40N 95W.
Stage Two:
After leaving 34N 97W it was a fairly easy drive back to I35 and going north to Purcell, Ok and taking highway 39 east approximately 21 miles. Then I took County Road 337 north to the area of the confluence.
The field has not changed since the last visit. The old pumpjack is still sitting there and rusting away. The entrance to the field was very easy. In fact if it had been a day with poor weather I could have driven to the spot and never left the car to record the confluence. The entrance has a cattle gate so during the summer they may run some cattle in this area but there was little evidence that any had been in there for quite some time.
Did not stay long since I was running a bit behind schedule.
Great Adventure Stage Two complete. Now on to 36N 97W
