13-Jul-2004 -- I remember visiting this spot well. It was the day I asked my wife to marry me. We both love the area and happened to be in the town of Gyêgu (Yushu) which is the town at the spot of confluence.
I convinced her to climb up the mountain that overlooks the town and hang out on an outcropping of rocky ledges that lie directly behind several radio towers. After a few minutes of rest, I asked her to be my wife. She said yes. Immediately fireworks began to go off in the town below (for us no doubt!), and a herd of sheep came over the ridge behind us and was led down into the town by a nomad boy.
Although at the time I had no idea we were just meters from the confluence, and that we probably walked right over it when going up the mountain, I am confident that we have been within 100 meters of it. Next time I am there I will have a GPS.
I have submitted a picture of the site where we were engaged. In the submitted picture #1, the confluence lies about 300 meters in front of us (about 2 inches to the right of my wife's waist on the image). In picture #2 you can see from the google image that the confluence lies directly behind a wall structure or enclosure, which can also be clearly made out in picture #1.
And coincidently, the Tibetan name of Gyêgu means "confluence".
