English narrative

29-Aug-2006 -- Having gathered for an expedition whose purpose was an ascension and descent on skis from the highest point in Europe, the mountain Elbrus, we checked whether there are any unvisited CPs in this region. Having seen that the point N44-E44 has not been captured by anyone, the decision was instantly made to visit at any cost!! The numbers were just too beautiful. The deviation from the basic route was supposed to be no more than 300 km. Running forward, I'll mention - leaving from the base of mountain Elbrus, having bargained with the local taxi driver pair a few minutes, our budget has suffered by an amount equal to visiting a roadside snack bar.

We carried out the main task of the campaign. On August, 26th, 2006 in conditions of bad visibility and a squally wind up to 25 km/h, we have ascended to the Western top of mountain Elbrus at a height of 5642 meters, having spent 7 hours on ascension and 40 minutes on descent!! Having fixed the top of Elbrus on a photo and GPS, with hope to lay it out as a special point on the site, we continued the realization of our plans.

Grown thin after two weeks on 8 kg, the organism demanded new tests, and we have confidently set out. Having bought in a local kiosk a map of the republic, and having seen the shortest route to the CP, we set out. Our driver Boris, as soon as we left mountains, decided, that it would be better for us to overheat than the motor, and turned on the heater in the old car. Behind a window the column of the thermometer showed well over +35 degrees, in the machine it was also about that - that is, it was fully at equilibrium. The stocks of mineral water, calculated for the whole way, it was necessary to fill up after a couple of hours of driving. The sad landscape of dried-up fields, on which for a whole month has not fallen a drop of rain, led to the idea, that two weeks spent in the mountains under rain and snow is a dream and nothing more than that.

After four hours of the way we reached the CP. The point appeared a couple hundreds meters from the road near the village Sovyetskaya. The way to it lay through a barrier of dry sunflower stalks and thickets of prickles. Combined with the terrible heat it there was a problem equal to the ascension. We limited ourselves to getting within a radius of 100 meters, made a legal photo and were quickly on our way, all the same through movement, the wind gives an illusion of cool.

Three hours later we were in Mineralnie Vody (Mineral Waters). And soon the Kislovodsk - Novokuznetsk train carried us to our native Novosibirsk.
