01-Oct-2006 -- After the success of 33N 11E, I left the Île de Djerba and headed back towards Tunis and on the way decided to see if an attempt could be made on 35N 11E.
From Île de Djerba I headed to Qābis (Gabès) and then onto Ṣafāqis (Sfax) and onwards to the small village of Jabinyāna (Djebeniana). Here I turned eastwards and worked my way through the farm plots to the coast. At the coast one is able to drive along a small dirt track right to the point closest to the Confluence without getting wet. At this point the Confluence is 1.22 kilometers offshore.
I was hoping that I would be able to rent a boat or get a fisherman to take me out, but with it being Ramaḍān and getting late in the afternoon, there was very little happening in the area. I had said to myself that if the Confluence was within 500 meters I would do the swim, but the 1220 meters was a little further than what I was prepared for!
I looked longingly at the place I estimated the Confluence to be, took the photographs and bid farewell as I know that it is unlikely that I will return to this area again.
The Confluence should be easily attainable with a sea kayak or getting a local fisherman to take you out.
