#1: A general view of the mountain side where the C.Pt. is somewhere near the summit. Taken from approx 1 Km.

(visited by Keith Howard)

15-Dec-2006 -- As I was on my own for this visit, I thought it might be just a recce. Arriving in Kapit by express boat from Sibu (3 hours) I went to the Land Survey office to try and get some local maps or information for the C.P. They were very helpful but not able to give me any relief map information any better than 1:50,000 which is not too good for hiking purposes. Anyway they gave me enough information to be able to hire some local transport and travel out of town and get to within 1 km of the point. The local area was hilly jungle but it has also been cultivated with hill rice, so I was soon able to find a track used by the rice farmers. Which after a very roundabout walk took me to within 200 metres of the CP. Then I hit a brick wall, or should I say thick secondary jungle. The GPS indicated the CP was 200m away and I could see it was up the side of a very steep mountain. (I was getting used to this by now), but having no companion for safety or parang to cut my way through I decided to leave it for another time. I did not fancy going into the jungle alone and risk getting lost, especially if the tree canopy was so thick as to prevent any GPS signal. I submit a photo of the general area and hopefully on my next visit will be able to submit the remaining photos.
