#1: The spot

(visited by Stephan Theriault)

03-Jan-2007 -- This second confluence of the day was a bit trickier than the first one.

After driving as close to the place itself, I went to the closest farm I found and asked if I could go and do what I normally do. Even though it seemed like a strange idea to the owner, he agreed but asked to come with me, which was perfectly fine.

We drove along on his property, sometimes in circles, just to come to a boundary fence. He then explained to me that the other side of the fence was his neighbor's property and that's where the confluence was, up there on the hill, no more than a couple hundred metres.

I drove him back to his house and he told me where the owner of the land "next door" lived. I went and found him (Mr Owen) and he was an equally pleasing man who found the idea interesting and had no problem letting me go on his land and even gave me a few pointers as to where I could drive so I would have as little walking as possible to do.

I got there and had to walk a little under a kilometre on sloping terrain. After finding the place without any trouble, I got my camera out to take a picture but the battery was flat. I had left the camera turned on after my first confluence hunt in the morning. Tried the spare rechargeable batteries but they were also flat. I went back to the car and recharged them for half an hour while listening to the Aussies flogging the English cricket team in their quest to regain the ashes. So I went back to the spot, took my pictures and went back home to my family, an hour later than expected due to my silly mistake in the morning.

Another lesson learned but a confluence gained nonetheless.
