05-Nov-2006 -- On 3rd of November, 2006, Mr. Damiran.G and myself (Mr. Soninbayar.P), drove from Ulaanbaatar to OmnoGobi (South Gobi) province of Mongolia. We were scheduled to work at the Dalanzadgad city’s Hospital for 3 days to perform maintenance and service on their Ambulance’s VHF/HF communication system. This was of course our main objective. The work was completed quickly finishing a day earlier than scheduled. Our second objective was to visit a new confluence point at N43E104. I had measured the distance between the Hospital and confluence point using Google Earth and it was 72.46 km by air to the south west of province capital Zalanzadgad city. The journey to confluence point was conducted on 5th of November, 2006 in our Toyota Land cruiser. On the way to the confluence point we have crossed over a small mountain mass which roughly about 1800m high from sea level. Unfortunately, we don’t know the name of this mountain because of we did not take with us local person. The mountain was surrounded by “GOLD NINJAs” about 500 of them. “GOLD NINJA” are people who do illegally gold mining by very primitive methods. I have heard that some of them make very good money.
We arrived at the N43E104 point at about 1:15pm. Total way we drove was 90km from province center. It was a bit difficult to zero the GPS lon/lat readings and we spent almost 15 mins walking back and forth.
