17-Mar-2007 -- SI...17 mts... y en avión!
Ya hacía tiempo que no intentábamos visitar una confluencia... De pronto surgió la idea de hacerla volando, ¿se podrá? nos preguntamos, no es la forma más económica por cierto, pero como el sitio no era muy lejano y el piloto dice que se podría hacer, realizamos el plan de vuelo, habría que escoger un día calmo, los integrantes esta vez por falta de espacio (el avión es biplaza) seríamos Alejandro Álvarez (piloto) y yo, a cargo de la fotografía de rigor el GPS y la ruta, tarea fácil comparada con llevar al famoso Piper Tomahawk LV-MRH derecho volando sobre el semidesértico suelo patagónico, lamentablemente el turno de vuelo reservado nos dejaba frente a la posibilidad de encontrarnos con algo de turbulencia debido al calor del día, el vuelo lo planeamos a una altitud de 3000 pies con relación al nivel del mar, y unos 2000 pies sobre el terreno, que es una altura cómoda para nosotros y para el avión, afuera a esa altitud la temperatura externa indicaba 20º-22º y en superficie aproximadamente 30º Celsius.

El plan era partir desde la sede del Aeroclub Neuquén, en el Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Perón, y realizar un vuelo en ascenso hasta llegar a la altitud prevista sobre el paralelo 39.00S atrás quedarían los Aeroclubes de Cipolletti, Allen, el Aeropuerto de General Roca y allá vamos... volando centraditos sobre el paralelo para ver si era posible mantenernos con cierto grado de precisión, Alejandro al comando, concentradísimo en el rumbo, había un ligero componente de viento cruzado pero lo logramos, a medida que nos acercamos me di cuenta que las fotos serían una tarea difícil, el sol en la espalda y por el contraste con la luminosidad exterior el GPS salía oscuro, de modo que no quedó otro camino que sacarle primeros planos, mientras tanto nos acercábamos velozmente al punto casi a 170Kmh respecto del suelo y no habría segundas oportunidades.

Para la pasada reduciríamos la velocidad pero en avión eso es muy rápido igual!!... apenas un par de segundos encima del punto...

La dificultad y la pausa que la cámara digital impone hicieron que no fueran las mejores fotos de confluencia sacadas por el equipo pero allí están, 14mts de error a 155kmh!!!

Nada mal!! ahí estábamos lo habíamos logrado, para asegurarnos Alejandro hizo un amplio viraje al sur para retornar luego al norte sobre el punto, ahora ingresamos nuevamente dentro del círculo de 100mts pero un poco mas alejados al norte, no importaba... ya estaba concretado nuestro objetivo, el tiempo seguía corriendo y había que retornar porque cada minuto encarecía mas el vuelo, sacamos las fotos de rigor, sobrevolamos el Aeródromo de Villa Regina y con el sol de frente quemándonos los ojos nos deleitamos con la hermosa vista del valle del Rio Negro y sus chacras en producción.

No sabemos si es válida esta forma de visitar confluencias, pero lo que sí sabemos es que es cara!! :-), pero divertida y todo un desafío. Finalmente misión cumplida.

Not the cheapest way but since it was not far and the pilot said it could be done we made the flight plan and waited for a calm day. It was Alejandro, the pilot and me; I was doing the GPS and the photos while he kept the plane straight over the semi desert Patagonia lands. Unfortunately the time of our flight could present some turbulence due to the heat; our plan was to fly at 3000 feet above sea level and 2000 feet above ground, a comfortable altitude for us and the plane; it was 20° C while on the surface it was around 30° Celsius.

The plan was to leave from Neuquen aero club at the Peron International Airport, climb to the intended altitude over parallel 39S leaving behind the Cipolleti, Allen and Roca Airport aero clubs, and there we go… flying right on top of the parallel to see how precise we could get, Alejandro was very concentrated, there was a slight cross wind but we managed, as we were getting closer I realized that the photos would be a challenge with the sun to our backs and the high contrast against the GPS made it come out dark leaving close ups as the only option. We where moving towards the point at 170 km, there would be no second chance.

For the fly over we would reduce the speed, but on a plane that is still too fast… just a couple of seconds over the spot.
The difficulty plus the shutter delay imposed by the camera resulted in what are not the best images made by our team, but there they area, 14 m at 155 kph.

Not bad!!! We made it, to be sure Alejandro made a wide turn to the south and on the way north we flew over the 100 m circle, of little importance since our goal was reached, the clock kept ticking which made the trip more expensive, we took more photos, we flew over the Villa Regina aerodrome and with the sun in our eyes we delighted ourselves with the beautiful views of Rio Negro.
We do not know if this is a valid way of visiting confluences, but we do know that it is expensive… but fun and quite a challenge.
