22-Apr-2007 -- This Confluence lies a few km from Mt Kenya north of Nairobi. As it was a Sunday and all we had to do was get to a hotel for the night, I gently introduced my 2 colleagues to the art of confluence bagging. Brent was our host and seemed game.
So as soon as we had done the ritual stop on the main road at the equator (and not paid good money to see the Coriolis con), we turned off onto rough tracks on the 7-km journey to the point. Despite logical decisions we ended up on animal tracks and getting stuck briefly in the mud. The point lies in rough grazing land near some cottages. We had a brief discussion with a local resident with no common language and then walked the 250 metres to the point.
Brent came but Rudy stayed behind. We were joined by 3 children - John, Susannah, I have forgotten the name of the little one. We then jumped back in the car and drove back to the main road along a fine track all the way!
We stayed nearby and had a fine view of Mt Kenya (5199 m) the next morning. I fear we may see Brent's name on further points in the future...
