Das Wetter wurde wieder besser je mehr ich in Richtung Süden unterwegs war. Alle möglichen Wetterlagen sind auf der Dempster Highway hier erfahrbar. Wieder in Dawson bei schönstem Wetter fuhr ich zunächst hoch auf den Midnight Dome, den Hausberg von Dawson City. Auf rund 850 Metern Höhe hat man von hier einen fantastischen Rundblick über die gesamte Region des Klondike Mündungsgebietes.

Der Schnittpunkt 64N – 139W ist sozusagen vor der Hautüre von Dawson zu finden, und von hier oben bietet sich mir die Möglichkeit das geplante Punktgebiet fast via Hubschrauber Perspektive einzusehen, und mit einem Fernglas abzuschätzen welches Gelände ich vor mir habe. Es wird wohl wieder ausschließlich eine Tour durch den Wald werden. Aber das Wetter ist heute obtimal für einen weiteren Versuch einer Video Dokuaufnahme, diesmal nicht nur als Panorama am Punkt sondern als komplettes Video mit allen Filmsequenzen vom Start der Tour, dem Weg zum Punkt, Panorama, und Zielankunft am Auto. Dieses Mal in einer 16 zu 9 Breitbild Version. In das Goldminenabbaugebiet das südöstlich von Dawson liegt führen zwei Straßen hinein. Die Boanza und die Hunker Road.

Von Dawson auf der Kondike Highway 15 km und auf der Hunker Road sind es noch mal ca. 7 km zu fahren. Mein Parkplatz und die Startposition ist N 63° 59 205 / W 139° 00 934. Dies sind 1,67 km Wegstrecke zum Ziel. Nicht al zu weit, aber mit voller Aufmerksamkeit auf GPS und Kamera mit noch dazu englisch sprachigen komentaren war ich unterwegs. Ebenfalls wie die Erstbesucher Brian Langevin und Chris Boland im August 2004 konnte ich einige stark verrostete Gegenstände aus der Goldgräberzeit vor über 100 Jahren entdecken. Auch war vor kurzem hier ein Bär unterwegs. Ich bin fast in die Scheiße reingetreten. Aber mein Metalltässchen klappert recht laut am Gürtel.

Punkt erreicht um 11,27 Uhr auf 553 Metern Höhe. Wie auch bei meinen 3 vorhergehenden Schnittpunkttouren verhält sich auch hier das Mückenproblem dieses Jahr in sehr engen Grenzen. Ich habe kaum Probleme damit. Der Rückweg der ebenfalls wieder ca. 90 Minuten Zeit benötigt ist auch ohne GPS machbar, und ermöglicht mir mich voll auf die Filmerei zu konzentrieren. Wieder am Auto angekommen war es doch eine schöne und nicht zu anstrengende Vormittagstour mit einer geographischen und heute auch geschichtlichen Entdeckungen und meinem ersten vollständigen Doku-Tour Video in Englischer Sprache, wenn auch nicht ganz perfekt. Die Fahrt geht wieder durch das Goldminengebiet nach Dawson City zurück wo gerade die Vorbereitungen für den Discovery Day anlaufen. Leider kann ich nicht bis zum Discovery Day bleiben und tausche meine letzten Canada Dollar in US Dollar um. Nach einem kurzen Einkauf geht es mit der Fähre über den Yukon nach Alaska weiter.

The further I was driving south, the better the weather became. All kinds of different weather situations can be experienced, driving along the Dempster Highway. Back in Dawson, accompanied by nice weather, I first drove up the Midnight Dome, which is Dawson Citys domestic montain, so do speak. At about 850 m ASL you have a fantastic around view of the entire Klondike estuary-region. The point 64°N – 139°W is pretty much located at Dawson’s front door and from up here, I was able to view the planned point – area, almost as if I was sitting in a helicopter. By using my binoculars I was able to guess what kind of terrain I had ahead of me. It seemed like it was going to be another tour hiking through woods. The weather that day seemed perfect for another attempt for a video recording. This time not only a recording of the point’s panorama but for a film of the entire tour. Beginning at the start of the tour, the trail, the panorama, the point and the arrival back at the car. This time in a 16 – 9 broad-picture version. There are two streets, Boanza and Hunker Road leading to the goldmining area.

The area is placed south-east of Dawson. It’s a 15 km ride on Kondike Highway from Dawson and then another 7 km on Hunker Road. The parking area and my starting point were N 63° 59 205 / W 139° 00 934, which left me with 1.67 km distance to the point. That wasn’t a long way to go but I needed all my concentration, watching the GPS, filming and trying to make my comments in english. Just like Brian Langevin and Chris Boland, who had made the first visit, August 2004, I discovered some very rusty objects, which seemed to be from a totally different time alltogether. The golddigging time, over a hundret years ago. There also must have been a bear around not too long ago, I nearly stepped into it’s faeces..But my metal cup was rattling loudly against my belt. The point was reached at 11.27 am at 553 meters ASL. Just like during the last three point-tours I had made, the mosquitos weren’t so bad this year. I hardly had any problems with them. I could handle the way back without the GPS, so I was able to concentrate my full attention on the filming. It took about 90 minutes. When I was back at the car, I realized that it had been a nice, not very straining morning tour. It had left me with geographical and this time also historical discoveries, plus my first complete documentary – tour – video, even in english language. Though it is not perfect at all. The ride back lead, once again, through the goldmining area to Dawson City. Here they were getting ready for the Discovery Day. Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for this special day, traded my remaining Canadian Dollars for US Dollars. I did some shopping and then took the ferry across the Yukon, on to Alaska.
