03-Nov-2007 -- This day came about because of the water shortage in the dam of Fervenza, consequently I went to the last confluence that I had left in Galicia. It is very easy to get to this dam and I arrived without any problems. What I did not imagine was the landscape that I was going to find.

Everything began about five days before, when I saw the news on television. They spoke of the rain shortage in Galicia and specifically that the dam of Fervenza was down to 2% of capacity, which made me decide to go hunt the confluence located within the dam without having to resort to boats, canoes, etc.

I was able to arrive at the point without problems, simply to walk about 650 meters from the supposed border. I say supposed because the dam was completely empty. Only the little water that ran by the old channel of the Xallas river, and in some isolated pools. The rest of the dam was a dry and sterile field, except some muddy patches. All that grew was some patches of grass.

The landscape was devastating and instilled a certain sensation of sadness and oppression. Mainly remembering that in the exact point of confluence there should have been water to the depth of 10 meters. As I approached the dam the vision was but still more depressing, thousands of fish crowded around in a little pool trying to breathe. A few thousands died in this day.

Really this makes think about the fragility of the nature and the influence of humanity on the Earth. I was left with a strange sensation of fault, the cause of the rain shortage in zones where always there are many, something to close the floodgates partly to maintain the water level… many questions without easy answers.

03-Nov-2007 -- Este día aprovechando la escasez de agua en el embalse de Fervenza, fui a por la última confluencia que me quedaba en Galicia. Es muy fácil a este embalse y llegue sin problemas. Lo que no me imaginaba era el paisaje que me iba a encontrar.

Todo empezó unos cinco días antes, mientras veía las noticias en televisión. Hablaban de la escasez de lluvias en Galicia y concretamente que el embalse de Fervenza estaba al 2% de capacidad, lo que me hizo ir a cazar la confluencia situada dentro del embalse sin tener que recurrir a barcas, piraguas, etc.

Conseguí llegar al punto sin problemas, simplemente caminar unos 650 metros desde la supuesta orilla. Digo supuesta porque el embalse estaba completamente vacio. Solo el poco agua que corría por el antiguo cauce del río Xallas, y en algunas charcas aisladas. El resto del embalse era un campo seco y estéril, excepto alguna zona con lodos y barros. Solo crecía algo de hierba en zonas con algo de humedad.

El paisaje era desolador e infundía cierta sensación de tristeza y agobio. Sobre todo recordando que en el punto de confluencia exacto debería haber una profundidad de 10 metros. Luego me acerque a la presa y allí la visión fue mas todavía más deprimente, miles de peces arremolinados en una escasa charca intentando respirar. Unos cuantos miles murieron en este día.

Realmente esto hace pensar en la fragilidad de la naturaleza y en la influencia del ser humano en la tierra. Me quede con una extraña sensación de culpa, el porqué de la escasez de lluvias en zonas donde siempre hay muchas, si hubiese servido de algo cerrar en parte las compuertas para mantener mas nivel de agua, si esta última solución hubiera sido negativa aguas abajo... muchas preguntas sin fácil respuesta.
