Nailed it! and how....

The notes I made before leaving home said "Altitude 1417 feet, long uphill walk, boggy." We'll see shall we?

Up at 5.45 am and a nice cooked breakfast, it's going to be along day today. Bacon & egg sandwiches and a big mug of tea. Lovely stuff.

I'd like to say that it had dawned bright & clear, but it was still pitch dark!

On the road for 6.20 am and although it's only just over 60 miles from the cottage some of the roads are narrow to say the least. Eventually I turn off and head down a narrow single track road past 52N. I can't stop as I will block the road. After a while I come to a farm on the left and a large cleared area on the right where some farm equipment is lying around.

I pulled in here and parked up, with a curious audience watching me while I got my outdoor gear on. Head off diagonally up the hill. Just 18 minutes later, bone dry !! (bog, what bog?) and I am exactly on the spot.

The scenery is fantastic and I can hear no man made sounds at all. Not a single one. Amazing. While I enjoy the scenery and set about taking the required photo's I set my gps into "averaging" mode.

Over 15 minutes later and I have collected 1029 samples and can report the height to be not 1417 feet but 1396 feet. The GPS76CX had narrowed the error down to an accuracy of less than 2 metres - just 6.2 feet. The best I have ever achieved.

Can't hang about too much so it's back to the car to head off to the next target. I had expected this to be hard, but assuming reasonable fitness only a 3/10.
