(visited by Jack Frickey)

16-Feb-2008 -- I was on a grand circle tour of Virginia with eleven dashpoints and this confluence on my agenda. It is about 15 miles south of Roanoke in rural Virginia. I was looking for Countryside Lane that the previous visitors used as their approach but ended up at the end of a long driveway at the home of a young couple and their dog. He was out fiddling with his paintball gun so we chatted about how to get to the confluence. He tried to tell me how to get to the road that got closer (Countryside Lane), but there was a path that went there from his property and it was only a couple hundred yards so I decided to go with a sure thing and walk. I climbed up the wooded hill and even crossed the fence mentioned by the previous visitors, but soon found that I needed to be on the near side of the fence for the confluence. (Recall their visit was before SA was turned off.) I saw all zeros on my GPSr, but the best I could capture with my camera is seen in Photo #5. The confluence is on a fairly steep wooded slope, so doing the GPS dance is a bit tedious. Photo #1 shows the view to the south down the hill with Countryside Lane at the bottom. Photos #2 to the east and #3 to the west also give some indication of the slope of the terrain. Photo #4 shows the view north towards the top of the hill.
