19-Mar-2008 -- Nearly five years ago Terje Mathisen visited this CP and made photos of its great summer panorama. Thus we considered it worth to revisit the area in another season and to contribute some winter pictures which may illustrate the contrasts. For geographical and other local names we refer to the 1:100 000 map Hardanger Vidda Øst.
During an Easter hiking-tour (by ski) we came along the huts Stordalsbu and Mogen. Because of the good weather conditions (-8°C, moderate wind, clear sight, bright sunshine) in combination with this attractive landscape we decided to have a one-day-break for a round trip without the heavy backpacks.
Immediately after having had breakfast at Mogen we started, moved back towards Stordalsbu and, after ascending to 1250 m, I took course into SE direction for the summits Haukereirnuten, Breidalsnuten, and Breidalseggi, enjoying the ups and downs along the way. Finally, it was time to approach the CP. 1.30 p. m. I shot the necessary photos and continued the tour with a descent to the place Bekkestaulen on the lake Juvikfjorden, just below the summit Austre Vinjekyrkja (Vestre Vinjekyrkja at the opposite side of the lake). Finally the round was completed along the lake. (Skins recommended for the mountain area)
The next days surprised us with clouds, increasing wind, declining views (white out), just sufficient to identify the next stick, i.e. 20 m, along the marked route. Fortunately we got the blown snow from behind along our N/NW-route, as it became nearly impossible to hold the face against the wind. While the weather improved after two days, the temperatures came down to -25°C and less.
