16-Jun-2008 -- This is the 30th of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January at 11N 5E.

Story continues from 16N 16W.

One of the reasons to leave Saint-Louis early in the morning was that the policemen in and around Saint-Louis are notoriously known for their traffic checks, and that they always will find a way to relive you from some of your money if you are a foreigner passing this town. Surpassingly the police starts only at 8 a.m. It was 7 a.m. and we were before the first roadblock but were waved through. Out of town a policeman stopped us but after a short chat we were on the way again and heading to the border to Mauritania at Diama. The procedures at both of the border posts went swift. We were driving through a national park mainly consisting of wetlands. We were seeing a lot of warthogs on the way. We found a newly constructed road leading to the main road leading to Nouakchott, cutting out the way to Rosso and saving us 50 kilometres.

Before we reached Nouakchott there was a traffic circle. One road is leading to the port; we took this road and got as close as 1.2 kilometres to the Confluence. The remaining distance we drove cross-country.
