02-Aug-2008 – We had no maps for our outing, just a printout from Google Earth which indicated that R111 from the ring road MKAD was the best way towards the CP. We missed it and headed instead northwest on M10 (Moscow-St. Petersburg). The weekend traffic was dense, the weather was bad, the wind was so strong that a tree broke down on the southbound lane, lightning and rain were so heavy that it forced us to reduce the speed to 30 km/h at times. We turned left at A107 and right at the crossing of R111. On R111 we continued to a point half way between Mar'ino and Lutkino where we turned left to a concrete and asphalt road. About 2 km down this rather bumpy road, partly with well fenced dachas on both sides, we turned right again for the last few hundred meters to a bend in the road where the GPS indicated that the CP was just 35 m to the North. We were lucky, the rain changed to just a minor drizzle while we took the necessary photos. The grass around the CP was tall and very wet so we chose to do it from the road.
As often happens we found an easier way back. Instead of returning through the lane with the dachas we continued straight on and came out next to a Rosneft petrol station at the crossing of A107 and R111. From there it was easy going back to Moscow on R111.
